Mike P Watchable but shallow and unaffecting sequel to the 1985 Tom Holland classic...Young vampire slayer Charlie Brewster survives the events of the first movie...And he's moved on to college life..And he starts the movie steeped in denial...He's engaging in a little selective amnesia where his past vamp-battles are concerned...Because it's too hard to integrate it into the real world. (So he pretends it all didn't happen)... Meanwhile the sister of the vampire he killed in part 1; Regine Dandridge; is also stalking him...As part of a big revenge plot she's nursing to avenge her brother Jerry's death. And then Charlie slowly starts to piece it all together...But it's a little too little, and it's a little too late...So...Tommy Lee Wallace is a very capable horror director; but he doesn't have the same affinity and affection for this material that series creator Tom Holland did; and it shows. Also he's taking it all too LITERALLY...Holland understood that a lot of these tropes were metaphors for OTHER more serious issues, (kind of the way Buffy The Vampire Slayer did)...But this movie misses that. Also, while it's great to see William Ragsdale and Roddy McDowell again; this chapter is sorely missing Amanda Bearse...She couldn't come back because she was busy starring in Married With Children...But her absence is felt; and there's nothing really here to fill the void. Also the villainess here, Julie Carmen, isn't quite on the same level as Chris Sarandon in part 2...(They should have brought him back in dream sequences or something... And Carmen is really miscast here...If they wanted a scarey vampire lady, how about Uma Thurman, Sigourney Weaver, or Grace Jones?) Overall it's all not really bad, just meh. Not recommended. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/17/23 Full Review Maddy L While this film may have suffered at the time due to a budget cut during production, it has aged in the way a solid 80s film does with decent practical effects. It is fun, and it explores a rarely-used trope in horror films: PTSD. The main character, Charley, struggles with what he experienced in the first film, convinced by everyone that it didn't actually happen. If you're looking for a fun vampire movie with a lot of humor and horror, this is really worth a watch. The makeup effects are once again, really good. Like the first movie, it's fun, campy, cool ,just to a lesser degree.
