Chapter Text
The world was a cruel but also beautiful place. Life always beheld a mixture of cruelty and kindness–an oxymoron all in itself. Robin never did mind the turbulent ride of existing and living. To breathe and become one with her environment as time ticked by silently. The idol found joy when it came to waking up with her mate’s warm body pressed against her. To hear the heartbeat that came from Firefly’s chest–and to feel the way her chest would rise and descend from each breath taken in her slumber. It was cliche of Robin to enjoy such things, but she had a very romantic view when it came to the matters of the heart. Perhaps this made her far more idealistic than she should have been.
Still, it was almost a shame she had to get up from her comfortable bed that she shared with Firefly. She wanted to remain in her strong, muscular arms–to feel that possessiveness latch onto her as if she were to disappear if any signs of release were given. Robin felt safe in her alpha’s arms. She felt safe being right by her side and to savor that faint scent of vanilla and cedarwood. Taking a deep breath, Robin softly inhaled that delicate woody and citrusy scent into her nasal passages, experiencing a wave of peace engulf her entire body. It was a handsome and mature type of scent–befitting Firefly as her role as not only an alpha but also her bodyguard.
The wings behind her ears twitched slightly before she stretched them out. She felt the muscles of her wings ache from remaining in a prolonged position for too long. Much like a muscle cramp, Robin took the time to maneuver her wings to loosen up the tension before allowing them to lower instinctively in a neutral and relaxed position. There was still reluctance in her body to move from the spot she was nestled into. Even so, she knew that at the end of the day, Firefly would always return by her side and smile at her radiantly like the summer rays of the sun.
Emerald irises peered upwards once the omega readjusted herself to have a good look at her sleeping mate’s expression. There was a serene look on Firefly’s expression as she slept–as if burdens were lifted from her shoulders. Robin’s gentle fingers reached forward, moving aside vanilla colored locks from prickling those closed eyes. She paused when she noticed a change of breathing and the slight shuffling of her lover’s frame to adjust herself for comfort. Still, Robin could not help but smile. She had seen what Firefly looked like when she inevitably fell asleep for a quick nap after long and exhausting work days.
There was always a slight look of turmoil when it came to Firefly sleeping. At least, that was how Robin perceived it as. Knowing that the bodyguard had a festering wound from a past that haunted her relentlessly, it was still relieving to know that she saved her from her despair. Firefly looked happier and also more vulnerable in general–having lowered her guard around her. Robin leaned forward gently to place a sweet, tender kiss on top of Firefly’s head, feeling the ticklish sensation of vanilla blonde locks of hair against her lips and face. There was ever so much abundant love in her heart and soul when it came to Firefly. Her beloved and kind alpha. An alpha who called herself a monster even though she was far from monstrous.
A monster was a creature filled with malicious intent and one who destroyed rather than protected. The alpha bodyguard was the kindest, most caring individual to Robin. The omega would gladly shout from the rooftops with that enchanting voice of hers so that everyone would know and hear that truth. Though, knowing Firefly, she would deny and dispute that statement. Quite a stubborn woman she was.
“ I love you. ” Robin’s admittance from her overwhelming emotions portrayed out at the volume of a whisper.
No matter how many times she uttered those three saccharine words, each moment to portray her love was equivalent to the warmth of a thousand suns. Robin knew that Firefly would never in her entire lifetime tire of hearing those very three words repeatedly. Firefly would also never tire of the way that she embraced her snugly in those gentle arms of hers. Robin’s words and voice gave her a reason to live to the next day–away from the terrors of her inner demons. There was genuine joy and happiness when the omega idol was able to portray her affections. Granted, Firefly had been very shy initially when it came to reacting to the way she would physically behave around her. Though, there was no doubt that the alpha bodyguard would remain modest and passive when she was around her. It was very unlike Firefly to brag or become arrogant for having an achievement. At least, that was what she had known from the time she observed her.
A small groan came from Firefly and with slight movements, her luminescent eyes revealed themselves to Robin. “Good morning…” she quietly muttered, her eyes half-lidded from the grogginess of waking up to the conscious world.
“Good morning Little Bug~” Robin greeted in turn before letting out a giggle. “Did you sleep well?”
“I did.” Firefly said, before rolling onto her back to stretch out her body. “I don’t sleep too well normally…but that was one of the better nights I had.”
Emerald-hued irises gazed at Firefly as she stretched in bed, seeing her muscles tense up. Robin felt the heat rise to her cheeks in response and one of her wings curled inwards to cover the lower half of her face. Firefly definitely had muscle tone and her hard labor back at Glamoth was telling. Those defined muscles were definitely eye candy to the omega. Her gaze traveled lower as well to see the well-toned abdomen resulting from the lifting of the bodyguard’s shirt from stretching upwards. Robin viscerally remembered the day they had mated.
Remembering the warmth that enveloped her lovingly and protectively while feeling the defined muscles from Firefly’s body. Remembering the hushed muttering of passionate devotion combined with the electrical sensations climb up her spine and spread all over her body. Hearing those three loving words as well made her heart soar. I love you, Robin. Those very words reverberated in the back of her mind and Robin smiled instinctively as a result. It was so different when it came to hearing those words from a loved one. Different from hearing her fans express their undying devotion to her. Different from hearing her brother state to her that he loved her and wanted to ensure her safety and happiness. It was also different when it came to her servants as well and certainly different than when Cadence would mention her loyalty and affection to her as well.
“Miss Robin?” Firefly blinked as she caught onto her mate smiling. “Thinking of something?”
Robin’s attention shifted from her lingering memories and thoughts back onto Firefly. Her smile widened further as her wing lowered and returned back to the side of her head. “Well…” she trailed off–her way of creating anticipation for her mate. “I was thinking about things…but mostly, I was thinking about you. ”
“M-Me?” Firefly blinked again.
“Yes. You. ” Robin repeated and she took the opportunity to sneak in another gentle kiss onto her bodyguard’s lips.
The alpha made a noise from the sudden kiss. Robin took note of the noise and kept her smile on her countenance while noting the slight red hue appearing on Firefly’s cheeks. She giggled. “How can I not think about you, Firefly? For the longest while…you occupied my mind.”
Firefly couldn’t dispute that statement. Robin was someone who would never lie. Robin was incapable of lying. She was far too honest and kind to fully indulge in that sort of behavior. Plus, the idol would frown and scold her for being self-deprecating as always. Seeing Robin frown or be upset in general was one of the very few things that made Firefly feel conflicted and at loss.
“Well…” Firefly muttered quietly after a brief moment to herself to collect her chaotic thoughts. “I can see that you really do care and love me a lot. Even if–”
“Even if you had endured coldness and cruelty.” Robin cut her off purposely–another way for her to put her foot down. “Self-esteem, love. You deserve to be happy. To be loved and cared for.”
Firefly chuckled. Of course Robin would insist. Granted, working on her issues regarding her self-worth and self-esteem would take years , but she knew that her darling beloved would never abandon her. Not when they are now a mated pair for the rest of their lives. There were stories of mated couples separating from sickness, divorce or other means. Often the omegas would endure travesty in their mental wellbeing alongside severe heartbreak. Alphas who lost their mates endured issues with control when they were unable to detect their lovers for a certain period of time. Betas thankfully, were able to recover easily as they did not have devastating results usually. Though, some betas would mimic signs and symptoms of soul shattering as if they were omegas or alphas themselves.
It was a complex world that they all lived in. One that had cruelty and frigidity in structure, but it was also oh so very warm and beautiful all the same. And Firefly was aware she was already beginning to see that beauty. When she had Robin right by her side despite everything that had occurred from her childhood and now into her very young adulthood. Firefly wouldn’t have it any other way, either.
“I do, yes.” Firefly’s reply was genuine, even if she had difficulties fully accepting it.
One step at a time. That’s all she could do. That’s all anyone could do. Thankfully, the bodyguard was patient when it came to matters like this. After all, it took her many years since her teenage years battling the melancholy of loneliness combined with the feeling of being an outcast to find some inner peace. Granted, her university years working and studying for her criminal justice degree was one of her best times of her life. Sadly, serving in the Iron Calvary alongside doing her studies also restricted her free time. She didn’t really socialize much besides doing necessities. She also didn’t fit in with the lifestyles of her peers either. However, meeting March and Stelle was a blessing, and one she would never take for granted. They were just as introverted and awkward as she was–though March was more extraverted than Stelle and Firefly combined.
Back then, Firefly remembered how she was a lot more passive and shy and often blended in the crowd. Seldom did she ever stick out like a sore thumb. Her closest friends came from those studying similar degrees as her, while serving their time in the Iron Calvary at Glamoth. Stelle and March were an exception to this. Stelle studied kinesiology and worked as a physical therapist with a hobby of being on the baseball team. March was in photography. All of them met as roommates during their first year of university and they all stuck by each other since then.
Besides those two, the rest of her companions were just like her. Studying in criminal justice, psychology or anything closely related to the pre-law degrees and programs. It helped mend that crippling and disabling void in her heart having found some semblance of human emotion and connection. Though, having graduated with a degree, she did have the opportunity to do other things but with her degree she was merely following the path her family experienced. Being in the Iron Calvary was something she enlisted just because of her family history. Her family pride. She couldn’t see herself doing much besides that. Perhaps in another timeline, she would have studied to be a lawyer or even a social worker.
Granted, she couldn’t think of the “what ifs” solely because her reality was now being part of the security branch in the Stellaron Hunters and now Robin’s personal bodyguard. It was very likely she would now reside in Penacony for most of her life as it was Robin’s home city growing up. Unless, Robin was willing to move with her back home where she was closer to her best friends and the Stellaron Hunters. An hour to two hour drive wasn’t the end of the world either. She could visit pretty often, especially when she didn’t have a set schedule with Robin. Firefly could tell Robin would enjoy traveling and meeting her closest companions. Her family in the Empire of Glamoth however, would require a few hour plane ride. Eventually Robin would have to meet her family eventually.
“We should get out of bed.” Robin shattered Firefly’s chain of thought, “unless, you want to lay around all day?”
Firefly shook her head. “We should get up…we would waste time if we stayed in bed all day…” The alpha grinned slightly, “though getting to be with you in bed all day sounds like a treat.”
Robin lightly smacked her mate with one of her wings. “I don’t spend that long in bed. Not even when I nest.”
The bodyguard chuckled at the light feathery smack of feathers colliding with her face. The scent that wafted towards her from it was pleasant. Gentle on the nose. Firefly feeling playful and confident for once leaned forward to kiss one of the pale colored wings before nipping at the edge of the wing, feeling the soft warmth from the tissue. Hearing Robin yelp amused the alpha and she released her teeth from the appendage.
“Naughty bug.” Robin huffed in turn, a small pout gracing itself on her expression before it reverted back into a smile. “I suppose my Cuddlebug is hungry, hm?~ I’ll get breakfast made then.”
With great reluctance, Robin was the first to force herself out of bed. They both had a routine by now. Getting ready for the day and then cooking and eating meals. The servants often were generous and prepared meals and other preparations early on as some of the members in the mansion were early risers. Others were more accustomed to the night and stayed up longer. One of the butlers for example was a young male, and he often had fun doing social activities with his peers at night. Robin took her time getting ready for the day and to comb through her delicate pastel purple-colored locks with her brush and other matters before going down to the kitchen. Firefly had her own room in this mansion and she went back there to prepare for her day.
“Good morning Miss Robin.” One of the butlers greeted the idol as she entered the kitchen.
“Good morning, Atlas.” Robin answered in turn, a small nod and smile given as well. “I can see that you are making food.”
“Of course,” the butler replied. “You do get up around this time, so I am making your share alongside Miss Firefly’s portion.”
“You’re far too kind. Though, Firefly likes doing things herself.”
Atlas was one of the Oak Family’s most senior staff members. He had a dark history–a violent one no less, but even then his heart carried the weight of gold despite all that he endured. It was likely why he and Firefly got along very well in a short manner of time. He was friendly, wise and mature–much like a father figure. “I am aware,” the man spoke. “Miss Firefly deserves a break sometimes, no? She can take it easy for the day.”
Robin agreed. Firefly definitely overworked herself to the bone day by day. Granted, being her personal bodyguard didn’t always become burdened, though some days it was too much for the average person. Especially when it was more than one alpha who had lunged at her during her rehearsals or even her performances. The alpha bodyguard has yet to endure one of her performances and rehearsals. She would likely rehearse in a few days at the studio with her usual crew. The Charmony Festival was one of the biggest events in Penacony where other groups of talented individuals would come visit and perform.
While Robin herself was the cosmic superstar in the entire world, her voice and her dances were the main tourist attraction in the Charmony Festival. Millions of credits poured into it for not only the performances but also group activities and events. Even when Robin was elsewhere in the world doing her tours, she would always come back yearly at the very least to perform in the festival. Plus, she got the opportunity to share delicacies with her brother that she acquired during her travels. As well as gift him and her other loved ones souvenirs.
When Firefly finally arrived at the kitchen, Robin had set up the table for them both. “I could have set it up-” Firefly said and she had noticed the way Robin shook her head.
“It’s okay.” Robin replied as she took a seat. “I was here first so I took the time to set up the table.”
“In that case, thank you.”
The vanilla blonde bodyguard took her seat as well after greeting Atlas and thanking him for the preparation of the meal. “Are you going to join us? We wouldn’t mind.” Firefly commented to the butler.
Atlas shook his head. “Thank you for the offer Miss Firefly. I already had my share. You and Miss Robin can enjoy what I made.”
“Well, alright. You’re free to join us at anything.”
“I will keep that in mind.”
Mornings were slow for Robin. She did not do much besides eat and think about what to do for the day. With the festival coming up in a few months, the idol knew she had to plan her schedule to fit for the preparations. Though, she did have a date with Firefly today . However, she was unsure when the bodyguard would take her out.
“Firefly, when do you plan on taking me out?” Robin asked and her emerald eyes watched Firefly consume a portion of her meal.
A pause. Firefly hummed softly to herself momentarily. “Would a dinner date be fine for you? I could always take you out earlier…we could go out to Oti Mall or somewhere else if you’d like?”
The idol wasn’t picky when it came to where she would go. She tilted her head to the side slightly. “A dinner date sounds lovely to me.” Then, a small tweet came from her larynx. “Unless you want to take me out earlier. I’m not picky, nor do I mind what we do.”
It would take a while for Firefly to grow accustomed to the fact that a tweet came from Robin. The way her sunrise colored eyes widened at the sound before blinking to reorient herself to her reality. “Do…all Halovians sound like birds?” Firefly had to ask as this was the first time she had heard her mate make a sound like that.
Robin smiled. She was amused by her beloved’s reaction. “Not all of them. I suppose Sunday and I are able to as we had developed this as a way to communicate to each other. It’s our own secret language. Though, wildlife do not understand what we are saying when we do make those noises.”
“I-I see.” Firefly took a moment to process the information. “Well…”
“Well, what?” Robin prodded with her words.
“It’s cute.” Firefly looked away shortly after, her cheeks heating up in response.
Robin giggled at Firefly’s response. It was flattering to say the least that her mannerisms were adorable to her alpha bodyguard. The idol had always been lusted over and viewed in a very shallow way. It made things difficult for herself emotionally. “I’m flattered that it’s cute.” Robin stated, “but I’m sure that’s not the only thing you find cute.”
Then a wink from Robin. Firefly pouted in response. The idol continued to chuckle at her mate’s reactions. “Am I wrong, love?” she wanted to prod further with her teasing as Firefly was incredibly receptive to it.
“N-No.” Firefly admitted. “A-Anyways…I’ll take you out later in the evening…I’ll probably be spending my morning and afternoon doing other things.”
It didn’t take long for the both of them to return back to their meals. Atlas’s cooking was certainly wonderful in its own way even if it was simple. Of course, Robin wouldn’t expect a chef to be the one cooking all the meals. Sometimes, the greatest meals were those made from loved ones. At least, Robin’s favorite meals consisted of those made from her mother, father or even her brother when he had the time. Sunday’s cooking wasn’t the best–this Robin would never admit out loud, but the love and care put into it was enough for her.
“I’ll be in my room if you want to see me or need me.” Robin said as she began cleaning up after herself–washing the dishes and placing the wet kitchenware onto the drying rack.
“I’ll see you in a bit then.” Firefly gave her answer as she continued to eat her portion of her meal.
Robin approached her mate and gave a small kiss on top of her head before she made her way out of the kitchen and up the many stairs to her bedroom. It was upon closing the door to her bedroom that the wings behind her ears twitched slightly as she noticed two spiders on her wall. Emerald eyes stared at the arachnids as she noted that one of them began crawling onto the ceiling and the other remained stagnant and stationed in the middle of her wall. The idol wasn’t exactly afraid of insects and arachnids in general. She did not like them crawling on her walls and being invasive in her territory. Perhaps it was part of her own characteristics as an omega that felt unnerved when other living creatures resided in her own space. Then again, she remembered viscerally when she tried to take those arachnids from her own territory outdoors to have accidentally crushed them from her own strength.
Robin remembered the sound and the way those spindly legs would curl up when a spider had perished from her own strength. The sound would be unnerving and sickened the idol. It was why she had acquired her brother or a servant residing in the mansion to deal with pesky insects or arachnids invading her space. Seeing there were two of them though, Robin felt that she could not take her gaze away from them as they would likely crawl away and hide elsewhere. She would feel unnerved and anxious afterwards– paranoid that the spiders would crawl on her or her wings.
The mere thought of two house spiders crawling on her wings made her shudder. Her right wing twitched as she watched the spider from the middle of her wall move upwards and downwards–a spontaneous pathway for the arachnid. She eyed at the spider on the ceiling now stagnant and in place as if it was content being there. The sound of her door being opened distracted her and her wings twitched again.
“Miss Robin?” Firefly said as she entered the room, closing the door behind her. “Are you okay?”
Robin did not look away from her invasive intruders. “I am.” she said, eyeing between the two spiders. “Sadly I have two spiders in my room…I’m not exactly a fan of insects or spiders in general.”
Firefly’s sunrise-colored eyes looked up and noted the two spiders on the wall and ceiling. “You want me to get them?” she inquired.
“Please.” Robin’s answer was enough for Firefly to move and approach the spider that began moving downwards.
Firefly waited for the spider to go downwards further before she reached upwards and crushed the arachnid with her fingers. The quiet sound of the arachnid’s exoskeleton cracking was enough to force a grimace from the idol. For Halovians, their sense of hearing was very, very sharp. The bodyguard moved herself to the bathroom afterwards to wash her hands, disposing of the spider’s corpse down the sink. Robin couldn’t help but be bewildered at such a scene–seeing someone using their bare hands to catch an insect or spider and to act like nothing happened. Sunday or one of her servants would use a tissue or some toilet paper as a worse case scenario to grab the pest before either crushing it with their fingers or releasing them outdoors.
“Firefly…” Robin’s words almost took too much effort to portray. “Did you not think of using a tissue? Or some toilet paper…?”
Firefly left the bathroom and blinked. There was confusion on her expression. “Huh? It’s just a bug. Plus I can wash my hands afterwards. No big deal, right?”
It wasn’t a big deal. Yet, having the idea that someone as bold and ruthless as Firefly using her bare hands was almost unspeakable. “It isn’t, but don’t you feel grossed out using your bare hands…?”
“Not really.”
Well, Firefly’s boldness certainly was charming and attractive. Though, there was still another spider to take care of. Before Robin could say anything else, she noted the way her mate pulled out her transformer, transforming into SAM in front of her before elevating herself from the floor towards the spider lingering on the ceiling. Robin closed her mouth and watched as Firefly as SAM slowly used her finger to crush the arachnid on the ceiling, pulling back and setting the poor creature on fire into ashes.
Thankfully, the smell wasn’t pungent nor did not last long. The idol watched her mate detransform herself from her mecha and back to her regular self. Robin was astounded at the audacity of her mate. Firefly seemed prim and proper, but it’s clear to the omega idol that her mate was no more than a silly woman doing things her own way. If anyone else heard her say this to them, they would think she was insane for mating with someone this ridiculous. Then again, Robin could care less. That silliness was amusing even if it was atrocious.
“Firefly, dearest.” Robin said softly as she watched Firefly approach her.
“Hmm?” There was a hint of confusion in Firefly’s tone of voice.
“This is the first time ever that I have seen you transform into SAM as you call it, and it’s for this? ” Robin could not stifle nor hide the bewilderment in her tone. “Of all things, it’s for the house spiders.”
“Yes.” Firefly’s answer did not make things better. Silly girl. “Better than trying to chase it with a broom or something–”
“But to burn the corpse to ashes. And to grab the first spider with your bare fingers? Most people use tissues, napkins or something to cover their bare hands with as they’re catching the pests–”
Firefly shrugged. She was quite nonchalant about it all. Perhaps she was quite jaded by everything to not give a damn to do anything else. Not like she didn’t wash her hands afterwards. Soap and water for a good ten to fifteen seconds. Robin kept track of the timing. Even then, it still baffled the omega regardless.
Robin sighed. “I didn’t think you were this silly.” Then, a smile. “Though…I didn’t have a good look at SAM. Show me, please? ”
Normally, the alpha would only use SAM as necessary for combat. She was accustomed to using her hands and legs otherwise for combat. It was only to more dire situations where she would transform into the mecha and use it to pilot as desired. It was true in a sense that this was the first time Robin had ever seen SAM. Photographs and videos were simple compared to the intricacies and the detailing of the real thing. Firefly couldn’t deny Robin the right to know that form of hers–even if there was a mild disdain of it due to her desolated past.
“A-Alright.” Firefly took her transformer once more before allowing the vivid flames to encircle her and envelope her into an embrace, forcing her body into the mechanical robot.
Robin watched in absolute awe as the flames disappeared and the tall metallic figure stood in front of her. Her head was tilted upwards as she met with SAM’s visor and she pressed her bare hand against the metal. “For someone who encircles herself in fire…it’s surprising to say the least that you’re cool to the touch.” Robin caressed the metal and made work to touch the arms next, feeling each groove and curvature.
It was obvious to Robin that Firefly was shy when it came to this. The way she stood absolutely still as her fingers continued to explore every inch of the robot. Firefly was certainly being a good sport about everything–allowing her mate to satiate her curiosity. The idol walked behind SAM next, looking at the areas where the flames would spawn out of the mecha’s back, forming the mint-green colored “wings” that assisted in the levitation and flight. It was always fascinating to Robin when it came to the Iron Calvary. She had heard stories and seen media relating to the mechas from Glamoth. The way they were fine tuned to handle the very devastating circumstances. War. Violence. Heat. Cold. It was fascinating. Perhaps Firefly, when in a better mindset and headspace, would tell her more about her past in Glamoth and her time serving her time in the Iron Calvary.
Though, due to the height difference, Robin felt her heart beat and throb as her emotions grappled her. Her large wings sprouted from her back, flaring as the colors of lilacs and lavenders came into view. Flapping her wings, she levitated from the ground to fly up in front of SAM, seeing the mecha’s arms raise and hold their position as if to carry her like a knight catching their princess. Giggling, the omega idol settled against the cool metal, her bare hands gently grasping onto the helmet, knowing that Firefly was within the mecha, watching everything.
“Miss Robin?” SAM’s masculine voice was heard–hiding Firefly’s natural voice.
Smiling, the idol leaned forward to place a kiss on the visor, knowing very well that Firefly within the confines of her mecha was flustered. The sudden stifling and stiffening of SAM’s movements was enough to portray that. “I love you, Firefly. Even when you are SAM.” Robin’s confession was overbearingly sweet and utterly honest to the core. “I love all of you no matter what.”
“Hmph.” SAM’s voice was very good at hiding emotions.
No matter how many times Robin professed her love to her bodyguard, she would never tire of the way Firefly would look away from her. She would never tire of Firefly’s smile either. “What?~” Robin teased her lover, trailing her fingers down SAM’s helmet, tracing the curves and structure. “Am I wrong?”
“Not at all.” SAM’s voice was heard before flames surrounded both of them.
Robin closed her eyes momentarily out of instinct–fire was difficult to perceive despite how warm it was. When her emerald eyes opened to perceive the environment and world around her, she gazed at Firefly, noting the way her eyes glowed a light green hue. The idol noted the green veins slowly dissipate as well. Robin was always curious. She had never seen anyone like Firefly. Her fingers immediately traced the green veins, feeling the warmth from Firefly’s skin. She felt the alpha bodyguard’s body tense.
“M-Miss Robin?” Firefly commented, shuddering slightly from the ticklish sensation of her mate’s fingers tracing over her anatomy.
“Sorry, too much?” Robin replied, pulling her fingers back. “I was curious about the green veins and the green glow to your eyes…I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Knowing that Firefly was still holding Robin as if she were still a princess in her arms, the bodyguard would have instinctively covered her face with her hands. Thankfully, Firefly did not drop Robin. However, despite the way she stood out in public, it was almost jarring to see someone so utterly strong and courageous suddenly be equivalent to a shy schoolgirl who was in front of their crush. It was still cute to Robin.
“W-well…” It took a brief moment for Firefly to orient herself and gather her thoughts. “It’s because I was part of the Iron Calvary. That’s all. Piloting these mechas requires a lot of energy and time. Part of our initiation we go through requires a lot of medical procedures to ensure our safety. It’s a side effect caused over time…thankfully my health is decent despite what I went through. But I do get very tired…and sometimes that makes me look frail or even weak. ”
“You should tell me more about your childhood and…your time back at Glamoth. I always liked learning about different cultures and the people that came from it. But don’t call yourself weak, Firefly. You’re far from that.”
There was hesitation in Firefly from Robin’s statement. Robin wasn’t naive to know that her mate still had troubles burdening the back of her mind at all times. That all the hard work she had put forth in her service to the public was also very fatiguing. Those very burdens are especially very troublesome, knowing that a murder also lingered as a taunt and threat to her self-worth. “Of course, you don’t have to do it now. But…perhaps far into the future. I’d love to learn more about you, Firefly.” Robin had hoped her words settled her alpha’s nerves at the very least.
Finally, the alpha smiled at her before placing her down gently onto her two feet. “Of course.” Then, a pause. “It’s not anything fancy…but…I could tell you someday about what my childhood was like. My friends and family from back home…I hope you’ll meet them too.”
Wings flapped at the idea of meeting her mate’s family and friends. Granted, her mother was no longer present for Firefly to meet, nor her biological father. Still, she had her adoptive father– Gopher Wood, who she still had yet to meet. Sunday’s case when it came to her however, would require further time. Protective alpha siblings often were wary and distant until proven otherwise. Though, the idol was content knowing that Sunday had put effort in being friendly with Firefly even though he had only known her for a few months.
Robin had hoped that they did not treat her poorly solely because of her status as an idol. She hoped that they would welcome her into their arms in the future. After all, she wasn’t exactly human and she had mated with a human being. Yet, pondering and overthinking for a distant future would never bode anything well. It was best for Robin to linger in the present.
“I’ll be honored to meet them.” Robin answered to Firefly after reorienting herself. “And I’ll let you meet my father as well.”
“I hope he’ll be okay with me.” There was a subtle tone of nervousness in Firefly’s words. “He is the one running everything.”
“I’m sure it’ll be okay.” Robin wasn’t sure about that–but she had to act like it’ll be okay. For Firefly’s sake.
It was a difficult relationship to maintain when it came to her adoptive father. Robin knew that she loved him as he was the only man to raise her alongside her twin brother when they were young children. When her mother was still alive, it was equivalent to a perfect family. A perfect dream-like family that would make anyone seethe with envy. Yet, life was utterly cruel as it was also kind. Her father was loving, caring, and even kind in his own way. Until the passing of his beloved wife. He became ruthless and cold as a result of grief. Many days often had her heart sink to the bottom of her stomach on lonely nights when she wasn’t able to meet his expectations as an idol. Sunday was no exception either as he was the one to inherit everything in the future–and to inherit the role of leader of the Oak family when the time arrived.
Robin didn’t want to ponder too long on the thoughts of her distant father figure as he had not been so kind since her teenage years. “If you’re sure.” Robin heard Firefly speak again and the idol blinked a few times to snap out of her lingering thoughts.
“It will be.” A smile and a kiss from the omega. “I promise.”
Time was something that often rushed by quickly–at least for Robin. Yet, today seemed to drag on, as if time itself slowed down just to torment her. Perhaps she was impatient about the first date she would soon embark with Firefly. She never really had outings with others in such a way either. Her family gatherings and her outings with her servants and friends were rare and seldom held that much intimacy. Though, she often spent her outings with Sunday when they were both growing up and exploring the world. Sadly, being an adult with responsibilities made things difficult for comforting times.
Robin would often spend her days indulging in her hobbies of baking. She loved to bake cookies and other baked goods as her mother would often bake delicious goods for her. Though, she wasn’t in the mood for baking at this time. Other times, the idol would spend time listening to other artists sing their songs. She would sometimes indulge a bit in films and videos. Her own Youtube channel was a result of one of her other hobbies. Singing her own covers for popular songs. They weren’t licensed thankfully, therefore, were not copyrighted and free to use. Robin was often a fan of seeing others create media from the result of her songs. Some media was difficult for her to understand due to younger children creating their memes.
Granted, she wasn’t that old. If anything, she was the same age as Firefly. Twenty five. Young adults hardly knew their way around the world. At the same time, with the Charmony Festival coming up in several months, her priorities would be more focused on her rehearsals for her songs used for the festival as well as her dance moves. It had been a while since her last concert and she was not touring currently. She would need to reshape herself. Pole dancing was something she was accustomed to, but it definitely was exhausting due to the necessity of upper trunk strength to hold herself up. Her wings could only do so much after all.
It seemed that today was one of those days to relax and simply exist and be one with the universe. She would go out with Firefly later in the evening, so she wouldn’t be trapped indoors all day and night. Robin didn’t feel like doing much besides indulging in her usual routine of answering emails, checking her schedule and planning for her next performance and songs. Granted, there wasn’t a set date for the festival as it was planned depending on the other participants. There were a few performers that Robin had befriended over the years. Black Swan who performed via magician-like tricks and psychic readings. Boothill who would occasionally perform with his rifle on stage alongside horseback riding. Sparkle who was a part of the Masked Fools who also performed via illusions, magic-tricks and even circus performances. She was also friends with Acheron who also had sword arts.
The omega was hopeful to see her friends in person again despite all of them being closely knit through the years in their growth as performers. She was closest to Boothill though. He often received her phone calls and text messages when she had issues surrounding her and when she didn’t want to burden her twin brother with her banter. Boothill was a father and perhaps he helped fill that desire for a supportive parental figure as he had a young daughter himself. Not to say her adoptive father wasn’t supportive. He was supportive in his own ways.
Robin’s phone vibrated and her emerald eyes looked at her screen. Boothill. What a coincidence. The idol took her phone and read the text messages that her friend had sent. It made sense for the Galaxy Ranger to text her around this time. Especially with the future festival coming up.
Boothill: Hey Miss Robin!
Boothill: Hope you have been doing well. Just wanted to check up on ya and also let you know I’ll be swinging by in town a month before the Charmony Festival.
Robin grinned. She always adored being with the monochromatic-haired man. He was quirky as he was serious. He was also passionate and empathetic and had a sense of justice.
Robin: Hello to you too, Boothill!
Robin: I’ve been doing just fine. I’m happy to hear you’ll be coming by to visit this year.
Robin: Are you a guest performer or just a visitor to partake in the activities and festival rides?
Boothill: As much as I love to shoot my rifle and show off my skills as a sniper… this year I’m bringing my daughter! She’s a big ol fan of yours Miss Robin, so I hope you’d make some time to see her and maybe sign something as a gift.
Boothill: Gotta take a break here and there y’know. Especially when I got an 8 year old with me.
Robin: Of course!
Robin: I’ll be happy to sign something and talk to her!
Boothill: I know every year they sell the Charmony Dove plushies. But there’s the limited edition ones that look like you. Mind getting one for us? I’ll gladly pay you back.
Robin: I’ll keep one in stock for you then. No payment required! For all that you've done for me, this is the least I can do for you.
Boothill: Thanks a bunch, Miss Robin! I’ll talk to you later. The kid wants a bedtime story read to her.
Robin: Of course. Good night and thanks for talking even for a little bit.
There was this innocent joy that would bubble up from Robin’s heart whenever she heard Boothill talk about his daughter. Boothill was a beta and never had to endure the cruelty of being an alpha nor the suffering of being an omega. Robin did always want children of her own one day. The mere thought of the day that she would bear Firefly’s children came into her mind. The omega felt her cheeks heat up slightly and her wings maneuvered to cover her face instinctively. Unfortunately, childbirth was not an easy feat, but knowing how patient, kind, and caring Firefly was, she didn’t need to worry for that future.
Robin would gladly endure the pains of a thousand wounds if it meant for her to be with Firefly. If it meant to have a family with her. She had hoped the alpha wouldn’t mind more than one child as she grew up with a sibling her entire life. Firefly never spoke about siblings and likely had her own issues when it came to being an only child– assuming she was an only child. She’ll ask about that at a later time.
The omega was a fan of watching TV shows as well as certain animated shows. Robin found herself to be pretty boring as an individual who had hobbies both outside of her home and within her own territory. She loved to venture outside onto city streets to hear and feel the vibe of the atmosphere. Liveliness made her energized even if she had to disguise herself in different clothing and act differently to hide her identity. She had endured suffocation from the propaganda as well but thankfully that stopped when her father and her brother had intervened. She was more free nowadays to walk out just the way she wanted without consequences. Life was pretty good to Robin. She had no complaints. Even if she did, only her brother and close friends knew.
After spending her day being productive, Robin found that time had sped up once more. Before she knew it, it was lunch time. She had her meal down at the dining table at the kitchen with Firefly. The alpha had shared some banter about playing video games with her friends and calling one of her coworkers and updating her about her current state living in Penacony. She enjoyed listening to her ramble on and on about her friends, family and even her hobbies. It was also nice to hear Firefly talk about Kafka again, remembering the early days where Firefly spoke about Kafka in a way that described her as a motherly figure.
It made Robin happy to know that Firefly was well loved and taken care of. The Halovian thanked the Aeons for their kindness and respite for her by giving her at least some good things in her life. She contributed as well talking about some memories with her brother when they were young, as well as the news of how their mother passed away from terminal illness. As heart wrenching as it was, Robin knew that her mother no longer suffered.
“I’m…sorry to hear that, Miss Robin.” Firefly’s voice was small and quiet as she heard her mate speak about her childhood.
“It’s okay.” There was a melancholic smile that graced itself upon Robin’s lips. Her wings lowered as well to portray the shift in her emotions. “She’s no longer suffering…and that is what matters. I hope she’s doing well, wherever she is now.”
Firefly reached forward to embrace Robin’s hands with her own, giving her own heat to the pastel purple-haired woman in front of her. It was clear the bodyguard was unsure of what to say in regards to the admittance of her mate’s life. That gentle, loving warmth that came from Firefly’s hands helped soothe the tender emotional scars that she clawed nearly open. Robin knew that no amount of words would ever truly heal the despair caused by loss and grief. If it were feasible, then the mere concept of despair and desolation would cease to exist.
“ Your smile and your love…it makes me so very happy. ” Robin’s voice was gentle in return, quieter than Firefly’s voice.
Firefly’s face heated up from the sudden tender words. She cleared her throat before boldly maneuvering both their hands, forcing her fingers to interlace between Robin’s fingers. Their palms pressed gently together. It was a bold and romantic gesture–Firefly was awfully sensual and romantic, but she knew it didn’t bother anyone. Robin giggled, and her smile widened.
“Thank you Robin…for making me very happy.” Firefly felt her own dam of emotions corrode and burst out, flooding her body with the overwhelming abundance of affection. “Even if we only knew each other for a little while.”
“Time is quite finicky, isn’t it?” Wings flapped a couple times and Robin pressed the pads of her fingers into Firefly’s hand even more, as if to keep her from pulling away. “Even that short amount of time meant everything to me. Even on the first day we met.”
The bodyguard’s cheeks were redder by the remark. Even with the toughness and seriousness Firefly held, she was still ultimately a woman living her life. A woman trying to find her purpose in this world. “You always flatter me, Miss Robin…” Firefly’s lips formed a small smile. “I was never someone who enjoyed the spotlight…I always blended in the crowd minding my own business. I was initially just a big fan of yours. Then, I got to meet you. I had the privilege of being your bodyguard and to be by your side.”
Robin noticed the way Firefly’s voice trailed off. She was quite the sentimental individual. Alphas typically did not display such tenderness unless absolute trust was given and earned. The omega had witnessed interactions with alphas during the course of her life. Even Sunday was one example as he had a mate as well. The Halovian idol released her grip from Firefly’s hands, then cupped them with her own palms. Her words remained hidden, knowing her mate still had more words to say.
“I still think to this day that I don’t deserve you. Some alpha like me…I don’t think I’m remarkable. I’m average. But, the fact it’s enough for you, I can never disregard how you feel. The way you see me as. I just hope I don’t become a monster to you.” Firefly’s worries about succumbing to her feral instincts were justified.
Alphas often would succumb to their feral instincts at certain time frames. They often lashed out and began preying on others as a way to satiate their own desires. Firefly had always battled those. Alone. Robin could tell the legitimate fear that bubbled from her mate’s concerns and she only tightened her grip on Firefly’s tender hands. “You’re not a monster Firefly.” Robin softly spoke in response, “I know from the bottom of my heart and yours that you would never hurt me intentionally.”
“That’s…” Firefly’s voice trailed off– hesitant on answering.
Yet, the way those iridescent eyes gazed upon emerald colored eyes, the bodyguard knew truthfully that what Robin had said was merely fact. “You’re right. I wouldn’t do so intentionally.” She answered again, her tone of voice gentle and saccharine–filled with love. “I would rather walk the scorched earth with my bare feet for an eternity than hurt you intentionally.”
Robin could not help but giggle at the notion that Firefly would put herself through immense torture and despairing agony for her. Perhaps not all alphas were selfish individuals unable to adequately control their instincts and desires. Though, the way Firefly had laced her words with pretentious poetry at times was also another part of her that the Halovian loved ever so dearly. Even after these early daytime events only made Robin fall for her more. “I would rather tread through that with you.” Her smile widened as a result.
Sheepily, the bodyguard looked away. A goofy smile plastered itself onto her countenance. Firefly chuckled softly as well, mirroring the tenderness that Robin portrayed towards her. It was difficult for her to stop feeling and acting the way she did. Only Robin could do such a thing to her with ease. Much like an experienced tamer, the idol had tamed that insatiable, ravenous beast that dwelled deep within her. “You have a way with words.” Firefly replied, “but…it suits you. It’s full of love and kindness.”
“All I ever wanted was to help others.” That was the truth and the beginning of Robin’s journey into her spotlight. “Awful things happen all the time. I want to make things less horrible and painful…even for a little while.”
Firefly released her hands from Robin’s. She gently cradled the Halovian’s hands, leaving chaste, gentle kisses onto the dorsal side of her hands. It was moments like these that forever seared into Robin’s mind. Not like the omega would have it any other way. These very moments continued to make her fall deeper in love with Firefly.
“Affectionate are we?” Robin grinned as she watched her mate continue to portray her affections on her hands.
“Mmhmm.” Firefly hummed softly in return.
It did not take long for when they inevitably parted ways. Robin knew that with the time ticking, it would be soon for the dinner date that they had planned. In truth, the idol seldom had “dates” with anyone. Even with her friends. Everyone had been so occupied with their lives that time was scarce and equivalent to diamonds. Even with the parting of ways, Robin craved Firefly’s embrace. Her warmth, her scent, her touch. Everything. Perhaps that was a symptom of being in love. The fiery desire to be consumed by the other’s presence. To be obsessed with the other’s individuality and presence that it consumed her whole. Robin never knew what it was like to be in love. All of this was ever so new to her. Though, she wouldn’t have it any other way.
When it was inching closer to the hours of the late evening, Robin had taken the opportunity to shower and allow herself to be plastered in a lustrous scent of floral perfume combined with the use of her typical makeup. Her hair done in her usual bun, while the rest of her hair traversed down her back and shoulders naturally, its texture silk-like. The Halovian decided on a light, flowy white-dress, covering her from top to bottom. A large bow from behind her waist, its ribbons cascading down as well. Robin decided against gloves this time around, she enjoyed the feeling of gentle air flowing past her digits. It didn’t suffocate her skin unlike her gloves that she wore usually for her performances.
Curiosity piqued her interest and the Halovian idol decided to traverse her way to Firefly’s room, her knuckles gently knocking on the wooden door that prevented her from seeing her mate. The bodyguard opened the door and Robin felt like all the air in her lungs evaporated on sight. Emerald eyes perceived the neatly groomed bodyguard, the way the black suit fitted her muscular body frame ever so perfectly, alongside the mint green tie neatly tied around her neck. Heat rushed to Robin’s cheeks and instinctively, her wings curled inwards to cover her face. Firefly widened her eyes momentarily–as a response to the sudden covering of her omega’s face before she chuckled lightly.
“Like what you see?” Firefly had to tease her beloved.
“Mmmhmm.” Robin hummed, forcing her wings away from her flustered face. “You look very handsome. Did you know that, Cuddlebug?”
“Am I?” Firefly’s voice was gentle. “But…I'd rather be handsome to you and only you. Also, you look beautiful as always.”
Robin smiled as she leaned forward to place a gentle kiss on her mate’s lips. She felt the softness and warmth which caused her wings to flap a couple times from joy. “You’re handsome no matter what, as you are adorable and cute.”
“Cute…?” Firefly pouted at that remark.
It was true–at least to Robin’s perspective. Firefly had an utterly adorable face no matter how somber and serious she was. It was difficult to not want to squish the alpha’s face with her hands. The idol proceeded to use her hands and squish Firefly’s face which warranted a quiet whine in protest. “Yes. Cute.” Robin giggled before leaving another quick kiss to Firefly’s lips.
“Fine. Just for you.” The bodyguard relented. She could never truly bicker or argue with Robin.
One of the servants had driven both of them to the restaurant. The car ride had been mostly quiet. It wasn’t awkward to say the least as Robin was accustomed to silence with company all the same. It was nice to have some peace and quiet when the majority of her life had been filled with noise and excitement. It was nice having a moment to herself with the person who meant everything to her. Just the two of them with a reserved table.
“You can order anything you’d want, Robin.” Firefly stated, as her eyes glazed and skimmed over the menu quickly. “I’ll pay for everything.”
Money was never an issue–and she knew Firefly had no issues with her finances ever since she became her bodyguard. It paid well–exceptionally so. Though, it was nice to be taken care of. It made her feel loved and attended to. “Very well.” She replied in turn as she had analyzed the menu herself.
Perhaps some expensive salmon and sides would do her just fine. As well as some cocktails or even some wine.
The omega Halovian couldn’t help but glance over at Firefly every once a while. The suit and tie suited her so nicely that it flustered her. Her wings continued to intermittently curl inwards to hide her face. Firefly had caught on but merely grinned and carried on with the dinner. Idle chatter was a thing between them both. Explaining to each other what had happened during the day while they waited for this very moment. Robin had spoken to Firefly about talking to her best friend, Boothill. Firefly had explained how she played some video games with Stelle, March and Silver Wolf. It was nice hearing about Firefly’s social life.
“Do they know about us?” Robin wanted to ask out of curiosity.
Firefly’s face heated up in a light red hue from the question. She sheepishly looked away. “N-No. Not yet. I want to give it some time before I let them know…”
Fair. Robin had no issues with that. She understood how new relationships were overwhelming and certainly required timing for everything involved. After all, it was such a large change in one’s life. “Understandable.” The omega idol replied in response. “I hope they will know soon.”
“They will.” Firefly answered. “They’re important to me and I want them to know.”
Robin smiled. “You friends sound lovely. I’m glad you have such loving and caring friends.”
“They are wonderful. I owe my life to them after all.” Firefly’s smile graced itself onto her expression. “They were always there for me even at my worst.”
Robin could not help but feel warmth travel up into her heart from this. It made her happy to know that her dear cuddlebug was taken care of no matter the circumstances. It relieved her worries for her.
The rest of the dinner went by smoothly. Idle chit-chat was done. Robin enjoyed the idle chit-chat from others around them combined with her own words to Firefly. Granted, it was their first date and it was remarkable at how natural everything was. Conversations were not awkward and she had learned about Firefly’s past to some extent. She learned about how Firefly had pursued an undergraduate degree in criminal justice before she remained in the military back at the Empire of Glamoth. She had learned all the intricacies of her life, including the fact that her biological parents still keep in touch with her from time to time. Same goes for some of the military friends she made.
Time went by quickly and before Robin knew it, it had grown into the later hours of the late evening. She was definitely happy from spending time with Firefly even though they had lived with each other for quite some time. Though, it was a different sort of company when it came to outings. The idol wasn’t keen on staying in a line waiting for her bodyguard to pay the bill. Strangers would continuously eye at her and the omega felt uncomfortable as she was not performing nor on stage. It was obvious that these very strangers knew who she was–after all, she was still the cosmic superstar even in her spare time.
“I’ll wait for you outside.” Robin stated.
“Sure.” Firefly looked at her mate and nodded. “I’ll meet you outside after. Won’t take long.”
It certainly won’t take long as the line began to shrink bit by bit.
The brisk night air filled Robin’s lungs and the refreshing coolness soothed her nerves. It was nice standing out in the parking lot, looking upwards up into the night sky where the stars twinkled brightly in the abyssal hues of purples, blues and shades of black. Multiple scents lingered nearby her. Betas, alphas and other omegas. Faint chit-chattering filled her ears. She had always taken the time to go out in her spare time when she was fed up with staying indoors all day long. Though, being with a loved one during these moments made everything far more special.
Yet, the lingering scent of a foreign alpha filled her nares and the white and lilac-tipped wings lowered instinctively as her instincts flared up in defense. “Miss Robin?” A male alpha’s voice was heard– directed towards her.
Robin faced the man, noting his tall stature and his build. “Yes?” She answered, though careful to leave just enough of personal space between them both.
“Just wanted to say I’m a big fan of yours.” The male stated and he stepped forward.
Robin instinctively stepped backwards–still insistent on keeping the space between them both. It was clear that the alpha had ulterior motives, knowing the parking lot wasn’t as filled with life like the restaurant nearby them. She had hoped Firefly was just about down with payment as well. “I’m glad to hear that.” A forced smile that covered the wariness in her body language.
“Did…you want an autograph?” Robin always carried a permanent marker with her, as many fans often stopped her to get something signed.
“No,” the alpha answered as he continued to breach her personal space. “Just wanted to see you up close.”
An attempt to grab her was made and Robin immediately smacked his hand away from her. Her legs ached from the tension, and her emerald irises gazed side to side intermittently to secure a possible escape route. “Well, you certainly have.” She replied. “If you don’t mind…I’d need you to take a step back. You’re a tad too close for my liking.”
Alphas in their feral instincts seldom followed through. It was clear that the man did not have his proper state of mind. The way his words now continued to be incoherent and fanatic-like and Robin had forced herself away from him as he continued to follow her. Adrenaline coursed through her veins and arteries and the Halovian omega perceived familiar vanilla blonde hair and sunrise colored eyes nearby. One of her wings twitched, and she let out a tweet as if it were her personal code of action to signal Firefly closer.
“Huh? Halovians chirp?” The male alpha cornered her.
“Not all of them.” Robin kept her voice calm.
Fear or anxiety often enabled alphas to take control of their situations. This she learned the hard way.
“You talk too much.” Firefly’s voice sounded from behind the male and the alpha growled quietly as he turned himself away from Robin to face the bodyguard.
“Pesky bodyguards huh? You’re with her?” He snipped back–clearly frustrated he was no longer alone with Robin.
“What do you think?” Firefly narrowed her eyes ever so slightly, her own growl emitting from her larynx in defiance. “It’s clear you’re making her uncomfortable. Step back.”
“And if I don’t?”
“Then…” Firefly snarled as she bore her fangs at the alpha. “You’ll regret it.”
The alpha attempted to swing at Firefly in defiance and frustration, and the bodyguard caught the man’s fist with her hand before she let out a louder snarl. Robin watched as the feral alpha attempted to lay his hands upon her mate, the snarling and growling louder with each passing moment. Alphas were ferocious when fighting others. The idol remembered when Cadence stood her ground to alphas such as the male in front of her, fighting with her life and receiving scratches, bites and even nasty bruises that took weeks to heal.
“Firefly!” Robin yelled out as she noted the alpha’s nails clawing at her cheek, grazing and leaving a red mark on her skin.
Firefly did not answer as she used her center of gravity to lift and grapple with the man before throwing him aside. The vanilla blonde alpha stood in front of Robin, her suit in disarray and her body heaving from the rush of adrenaline. It was clear that Firefly was the more dominant of the two alphas seeing the scratch marks and the bruises plastered all over the stranger’s body were far worse than her own injuries. A weak growl came from him before he mustered the rest of his energy to flee from the scene.
“Robin, are you okay?!” Firefly turned around immediately to look at the Halovian once the aggressive alpha fled, her eyes portraying concern that oozed out onto her body language.
“I’m okay.” Robin replied and the back of her index finger was used to graze over the scratch mark on her beloved’s cheek. “But…you got hurt. Because of me–”
“That isn’t your fault.” Firefly interrupted, “I’m okay. I promise.”
There was no sense in arguing at this current time. Robin caved in defeat. “Alright…but I’m going to patch you up when we’re home.”
“Alright.”
The car ride home was awkward. The ominous silence was unnerving for Robin but she could see the fatigue ooze from Firefly’s body as she looked out of the window and her eyes were focused on the passing environment. The omega took a quiet deep breath before she exhaled. She took Firefly’s hand into her own, lacing their fingers together. Firefly looked at her in response but stated nothing.
When they were home and had gotten changed and cleaned up for the night, Robin had begun to use some small gauze with saline solution to wash away the residual dirt and blood from Firefly’s cheek. Some wound cleaner was used as a safety precaution. The alpha kept her eyes away from staring at her. “Firefly…” Robin wanted her to look at her.
“Hmm?” Firefly hummed in acknowledgement and her gaze finally met hers.
“Thank you for saving me.” Robin used dry gauze to dry up the scratch. Thankfully the wound was incredibly superficial so a dressing was unnecessary. “I’m used to these types of situations so I’m aware how to handle myself…and I’m sorry you got hurt because of me.”
“This is nothing.” Firefly remarked as she noted Robin putting away the excess supplies.
“I know. But I don’t like seeing others get hurt.” Robin was far too kind, soft and gentle for anyone’s own good. Including hers.
“A scratch mark and some bruises will heal. What matters is your safety.” Firefly took Robin’s hands into her own once everything was packed away. “He didn’t touch you, did he?”
Robin shook her head. “No. He tried to grab me, but I smacked his hand away. He followed me despite trying to get more space from him.” Then, a sigh. “They always want to get touchy with me. But it’s a shame…he clearly wasn’t in the right mind. Alphas truly have it bad, don’t they?”
Firefly’s silence spoke volumes. “Not as bad as omegas.” Firefly said quietly. “But, alphas all have the ability to control themselves. He just wanted to assert dominance and do whatever he pleased.”
Robin knew Firefly was blunt about the truth. Even if she wanted to give all alphas the benefit of the doubt despite the pattern of hostile behavior. “I know. I just wanted to give the benefit of the doubt sometimes. I don’t think all alphas are bad…you’re not one of the bad ones.”
Firefly flinched at the remark, knowing that the kindness of those words always struck a chord in her heart. “Thank you for believing in me then.” The bodyguard had forced all negativity away from her current behaviors. “I will always be there and protect you. Until the day I die.”
Robin forced her hands out of Firefly’s hands and she allowed herself to embrace her mate lovingly and tightly. The scent of faint vanilla and cedarwood filled her sense of smell and the Halovian nuzzled into that protective warmth. She kissed Firefly’s cheek shortly after, avoiding the cleansed scratch. “I know you will. And you do just fine, my lovely Cuddlebug.”
